Playstation 4 is in development!

It has only been five years since Sony PlayStation 3 was released into the market but it looks like its time in the business is almost up. Sony has just admitted that the successor to their 2006’s console “is already under way”. This fact was revealed by Sony’s Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Masaru Kato during a conference call to investors yesterday.

"For the home equipment the PS3 still has a product life, but this is a platform business, so for the future platform - when we'll be introducing what product I cannot discuss that - but our development work is already under way, so the costs are incurred there," – Masaru Kato, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Sony.

The answer was Masaru’s response to the company’s increased Research & Development (R&D) costs in which he was asked to clarify during the conference call. While we believe that the new console will take at least 1 to 2 years before it is actually available to consumers, the next console wars are certainly upon us once again since Nintendo have confirmed their new console last month, as well as Microsoft who are rumoured to be working on the successor to Xbox 360.

The question is…are we actually ready for them? We don’t know about you but we are certainly looking forward to check them out when the time comes.
